Dan Gilbert continues to collect buildings downtown like kids used to collect baseball cards.

His latest acquisition is the Comerica Bank building in  downtown Detroit at 201 W. Fort St., which he reportedly paid $5 million, writes JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press.

Comerica leaves Friday and will reopen its branch next week in the Penobscot Building, a block away.

The Penobscot Building used to be one of the grand office buildings in downtown Detroit, but now looks worn and out-of-date. 

Gilbert's Bedrock firm already owns or controls more than 90 properties in downtown Detroit, including the old Detroit News and Free Press offices.
