Van Elsander
Since opening his first furniture store at Gratiot Avenue and 10 Mile Road in 1959, Art Van Elslander has grown the Art Van Furniture brand into a giant chain.
Now he's selling it to a private equity firm in Boston, JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press reports. The deal is scheduled to close next month for an undisclosed amount.
The company has more than 100 Art Van Furniture and PureSleep Mattress stores in five states and is regarded as one of the nation's largest retail furniture chains. It advertisest frequently on TV.
"I am proud of Art Van Furniture’s history and what we have accomplished," the founder said in a statement. "The time for an ownership transition is right and the opportunity presented itself. There is still much I want to do, and I feel confident knowing the company and its people will be in the very best of hands for continued growth and success.”
