Taking photos of some of Detroit's ruins can be dangerous. It can also leave a bit of a bitter taste when Detroit Police blow off a dangerous encounter while taking those photos.

Steve Neavling of Motor City Muckraker reports that Australian photographer Robert Wallace was taking photos at the abandoned Packard Plant on the city's east side two weeks ago when a gunman demanded his camera equipment.

Neavling reports that the gunman chased Wallace, who dove into the bed of his friend's pickup truck. The gunman was pointing the weapon at him.

“I was just waiting for the bullet to pierce my skin,” he told me.

The pickup truck drove off and he survived the horrifying incident.

Neavling reports that Wallace was particularly irked when Detroit Police refused to file a report, saying no crime was committed.

“A guy brandishing a pistol within inches of us isn’t a crime?” Wallace asked.
