This is an unusual story, particularly in light of the fact the abortions are legal.
WXYZ's Jim Kiertzner and Nima Shaffe report that authorities raided the home Tuesday night of West Bloomfield Dr. Michael Roth, an OB/GYN who is suspected of conducting illegal abortions.
WXYZ, citing unnamed sources, reports that 14 containers of human tissue, possibly fetuses, medical equipment and large amounts of Fentanyl, a drug used for pain and sedation, was found in the doctor's car. The DEA, West Bloomfield Police and Michigan Attorney Genera's Office were involved in the raid.
WXYZ reports that the investigation resulted from an accident the doctor was involved in at 14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake in West Bloomfield.
He hit a special needs child who was critically injured and authorities impounded his car, which contained the suspicious materials.
The doctor has not been charged with a crime in the abortion investigation.
