Being number one isn't always so great.
Crain's Detroit Business reports that Wayne County treasurer's office believes Wayne County is number one in the country when it comes to foreclosures on properties. The lion's share is in Detroit.
Gary Anglebrandt of Crain's report on the Wayne County office:
The office began foreclosure proceedings on 42,000 properties this year. "We could have pursued twice as many but our office couldn't handle the volume," said Chief Deputy Treasurer David Szymanski, who believes that's the highest number of any county in the country. "I'm sure we're the worst off."
Cuyahoga County, which encompasses Cleveland, probably runs a distant second, he said. Cuyahoga sent 7,500 delinquency notices in the first half of this year, according to its treasurer's office. Szymanski doesn't expect the number to begin falling for another two years.
