Friday, 11:35 a.m. -- Officials with the Beaumont Health System, Oakwood Healthcare and Botsford Hospital announced today that they have agreed to a merger that will create a new $3.8 billion operation with eight hospitals and 153 patient care sites, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Hospitals, much like banks, have been in an acquisition and expansion mode for many years now.
JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press reports that hospital officials could announce as early as Friday plans for a three-way merger between Beaumont Health System, Oakwood Healthcare and Botsford Hospital.
The possible consolidation was first reported by Crain’s Detroit Business.
It would create one of the largest health care provider systems in southeast Michigan, the Freep reported.
