Over the years, on Labor Day, some of the biggest names in U.S. politics have come to Detroit.

Sen. John F. Kennedy, who was running for president, spoke in Cadillac Square on Sept. 5, 1960.  On Sept. 6, 2011, President Barack Obama spoke. The following year, Vice President Joe Biden did.

This year, former President Bill Clinton, who has been campaigning around the country for wife Hillary Clinton, will partake in the Labor Day festivities on Monday in Detroit, the Detroit Free Press reports. Time and place details will be announced later.

Hillary Clinton and running mate Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine will be in Cleveland on that day. Ohio is considered a crucial swing state. Clinton leads, at least for now, by a comfortable margin in Michigan.

GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump plans to visit a west-side Detroit church Saturday.

Labor Day events in Detroit are generally reserved for Democratic politicians. A guy like Trump would have a rough go speaking before the Labor Day crowd in Detroit.
