Third Avenue in Detroit still has the feel of the old Cass Corridor rather than "Midtown." Stretches are pretty rundown.

But new businesses have been popping up there in the past couple of years, with the latest being Cake Ambition, which plans to open May 2 at 4154 3rd Ave. reports Brenna Houck of Eater Detroit. The shop will focus on custom cakes and have café seating to serve cake slices, other desserts, coffee, tea and old-fashioned candy.

In recent times, other businesses that have come to Third Avenue include Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, Blossoms flower shop and Cinema Detroit, which moved from Cass Avenue.
