A fundraiser to help fire-damaged Taqueria El Rey bounce back passed its $20,000 goal in less than two days.

As of Wednesday, a GoFundMe launched on behalf of owner Daniel Fuentes and his family has raised nearly $30,000 from more than 660 donors. The Southwest Detroit restaurant known for its charred chicken and tacos was severely damaged Saturday morning.

On Sunday, the restaurant said it was working on assessing the damage and what would need to be replaced. With the GoFundMe, donations are sought to help it "reopen as soon as possible."

"This family-owned business has been in operation for over 25 years and we would like to conserve this unique Detroit jewel," the campaign set up by a supporter says.
