Giordano's, a nationally known Chicago pizzeria, is laying down a marker in Detroit.

The company, whose slogan is "Italian Born, Chicago Raised," plans to open a deep dish pizza outlet at 1224 Randolph Street in downtown Detroit where Bagger Dave's briefly stood before it closed in 2015, reports Ben Solis of MLive.

Giordano's already operates in Holland, in the western part of the state. It has 15 restaurants nationwide.

Giordano's will compete with PizzaPapalis of Greektown, which also serves Chicago-style deep dish pizza just blocks away.

The first shop was established in 1974 in Chicago.

Besides offering traditional deep dish pizza, Giordano's also sells round, thin-crust pizza, salads, appetizers including fried calamari, chicken wings, sandwiches like meatball subs and traditional Italian dishes like lasagna and spaghetti.
