Robert Davis
Former Highland Park School Board President Robert Davis knows what he's talking about when it comes to embezzling. He recently served 10 months for swiping $200,000 from the impoverished Highland Park School District.
A lack of oversight by school districts makes it simple to siphon public money, he tells Oralandar Brand Williams of The Detroit News. “It’s easy access,” says Davis, 36. “In some situations, [embezzlement] might be undetectable.”
His statements come in wake of charges against 12 Detroit Public Schools principals, an administrator and a vendor in a kickback scheme that robbed the school district of millions of dollars.
Davis said he is humbled and hopes to regain his job as a union official with AFSCME Local 25 to support his 11-year-old son, The News reports. That won't happen, says Al Garrett, president of the local.
