KrystalcrittendonThe Detroit City Council met for nearly two hours Thursday in closed session with the city's top lawyer, Krystal Crittendon, to discuss her confidential legal opinion on how the city should proceed with its financial stability agreement with the state now that the toughest weapons the state had -- the right to override elected local officials and gut union contracts -- are off the table with the repeal of Public Act 4.

Matt Helms from the Free Press reports council members declined to reveal what they discussed, but council President Charles Pugh said city officials can't ignore that the state's emergency manager law was repealed, with sweeping impact on the city's financial stability agreement.

"We have to fix our finances, and that's what the council is singularly going to be focused on," Pugh said. "We want to work with the mayor's office. But we don't want to be forced into doing things that are unreasonable."
