Chris Brown, Detroit mayor Dave Bing's COO, has resigned.

Brian Dickerson of the Free Press has an off-the-wall idea:

So what glutton for punishment has both the skills and the appetite to assume Brown's thankless role?

I can think of only one.

Of course, there are a few reasons why Mike Duggan, who announced his own resignation as CEO of the Detroit Medical Center just a few days before Brown threw in the towel, might not appear, at first blush, to be the ideal fit for Bing's top deputy.

For one thing, Duggan is about 10 seconds away from formally launching his own mayoral campaign -- a decision he has made clear will be taken without deference to Bing's own druthers about seeking a second term.
