The audience watching next Wednesday's red-carpet premiere in Royal Oak of the comedy, ‘The Best Thanksgiving Ever: a Detroit Holiday Misadventure," should recognize local places including Como’s in Ferndale, 24 Seconds Bar and Grill in Berkley, Market Square in Birmingham and the Royal Oak police and fire departments.
It will also include voice cameos by Mike Valenti and Terry Foster of 97.1 The Ticket.
The movie was written by West Bloomfield-native David Paulus, who now lives in Los Angeles. It's showing at the Emagine Royal Oak at 8 p.m.
“In our society’s current, hyper-politically correct climate, the film goes places that most mainstream comedies are afraid to go,” Paulus, who costars in the film, says in a press release. “It has been said that, ‘comedy celebrates the absurdity of the human condition,’ and this film is a testament to that idea.”
A press release says:
Filmed in suburban and downtown Detroit and Los Angeles, the 88-minute movie tells the story of Kevin, a metro Detroiter who experiences the holiday heartbreak of his life. His friends come to the rescue with a disastrous guys’ night out, loosely based on actual events that took place during Thanksgiving 2008. The wild misadventure is bold and sexually charged and makes no apologies.
“One of the things I’m most proud of about this film is that while most mainstream-style comedies take place in New York, Miami, Chicago or LA, this film takes place in metro Detroit,” says Paulus. “Many big budget Hollywood movies have and continue to shoot in Michigan, however the narrative location is usually some fictitious setting like Gotham City. With The Best Thanksgiving Ever, during any given scene, you could find yourself saying, ‘I was just there the other day.’”
