Ded Rranxburgaj, 48, of Southgate, an undocumented Albanian who cares for his ill wife and is supposed to be deported next week, is taking refuge at the Central United Methodist Church next to Comerica Park.

It's the first time a church in Metro Detroit has announced that it is taking in an immigrant wanted by ICE for deportation since President Trump took office, advocates say, according to Narij Warikoo of the Detroit Free Press:

ICE has what is called a "sensitive locations"  policy that advises agents not to target houses of worship and schools. ICE's website states: "Enforcement actions may occur at sensitive locations in limited circumstances, but will generally be avoided."

Rranxburgaj said he had been allowed for years to stay in the U.S. under humanitarian status because his wife, also an immigrant from Albania, suffers from multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair.

A Coney Island restaurant cook, he came to the U.S. 17 years ago.
