Detroit City FC, the popular minor league soccer team that plays in Hamtramck, announced Tuesday plans to invest in  the Detroit City Fieldhouse, a 75,000 square-foot indoor facility at 3401 E. Lafayette in Detroit, that will serve as an "affordable and accessible playing space for the Detroit soccer community."

The new fieldhouse will include a boarded field and non-boarded field that will be used primarily for adult recreational soccer leagues, with the availability for multi-sport use.

"We believe the Fieldhouse can be more than just an indoor soccer facility," DCFC co-owner and DCFL founder Sean Mann said in a statement. "We envision a welcoming space that is the safest and most affordable soccer facility in the region, and also serves as a hub for healthier and more active lifestyles in the city.”

Located in the former City Sports Center ice skating rink, the facility is undergoing renovations and plans to open this September.
