Detroit Police officer Fadi Shukur, the victim of a hit-and-run driver on the city's west side, has died, officials announce.
The Aug. 4 incident happened in the 18800 block McNichols around 2:40 a.m.
Shukur, 30, was on crowd control duty with other officers. He was walking to his scout car when hit by a speeding vehicle. The driver fled, but later turned himself in to a Detroit Police precinct.
Jonathan David Cole, 19, of Belleville, is charged with second-degree murder, reckless driving causing death and failing to stop at a fatal accident, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Wednesday.
