Surprise surprise.

The Detroit Free Press reports that ESPN.com's researchers used advanced statistical methodology to figure out the NFL's worst drafting team since the 2002 expansion. And yes it was the Detroit Lions.

Steve Schrader of the Freep writes:

It was confirmed on ESPN's list by using Pro Football Reference's Approximate Value statistic — every player's expected AV for his draft slot was compared to the actual AV for the first four years of his career.

And the Lions got the worst return for their picks. To be fair, though, much of that time was the Matt Millen Era.
