Federal agents are looking into $75,000 in payments to a private company named ExCel  Media, which is owned by Detroit radio host Mildred Gaddis, from firms affiliated with two former guest hosts now facing criminal charges, according to two sources, the Detroit News reports.

Highland Park school board member Robert Davis and former Wayne County Assistant Executive Michael Grundy were once regulars on Gaddis' "Inside Detroit" morning show on WCHB-AM 1200. Both were separately indicted this spring on charges of pocketing public money.

Gaddis' spokesman Greg Bowens  acknowledged the firms paid ExCel, but said the money didn't buy favorable treatment for Grundy's former boss, Executive Robert Ficano, or the causes of Davis, a union activist.

"Mildred Gaddis has always gone where the news takes her," Bowens said. "She has spent at least six hours talking about things unfolding at Wayne County — including 90 minutes on Michael Grundy alone."
