A 26-year-old man is hospitalized in police custody after he was shot by Detroit officers who said he tried to run them over.

The shooting occurred early Friday at a gas station on Schoolcraft near Outer Drive on Detroit's west side, WXYZ reports. Police allege the man was in a stolen Ford Raptor they've unsuccessfully pursued twice before.

The Friday encounter sparked another unsuccessful chase, in which a female passenger reportedly jumped from the vehicle and was also injured.

Police later found the truck abandoned with blood inside. Tracking dogs then brought them to the injured woman and wounded suspect.

The driver has reporteldy previously faced charges of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, fleeing police and resisting arrest. The 2019 case resulted in the dismissal of some charges and probation.
