Human Resources 101 wouldn't find this the most ideal way to terminate an employee.

Nonetheless, it's certainly an effective way. 

On Thursday, a few months shy of her two-year anniversary leading the kitchen of Republic Tavern at 1942 Grand River Avenue in downtown Detroit and the sister diner, Parks and Rec next door, executive chef Sarah Welch says she was fired in a message on voicemail from general manager Lisa Carleton, Mark Kurlyandchik of the Detroit Free Press reports. Carleton is the sister of Tom and David Carleton, co-owners of the restaurant with partner Sean Emery.

"After presiding over both Parks and Rec’s positive reception as well as Republic’s continued success, I am surprised and deeply saddened by the ownership’s decision to part ways," Welch said in a statement to the Free Press. "Despite some early challenges, our team was able to right a floundering ship."

Carleton said the split was the result of "a difference in management styles."
