While most people seem to be focused on the presidential election next month, Devonna Harvey is eyeing the election in November 2017.

She wants to be the next Detroit mayor.

"I live on a street that floods every time it rains. So things like that. I know that there are some things being done but there are things that people need right now in their neighborhoods. I live on a street where there's a school that's abandoned and it's been abandoned for a long time," she tells Fox 2's M.L. Elrick.

Elrick reports that Duggan held a fundraiser last week but Matt Helms of the Detroit Free Press reported that Harvey is the only candidate officially running for mayor.

A spokesperson for Duggan says the mayor will decide by year's end whether to seek another four years.  Duggan's name has surfaced as a candidate for governor in 2018, but so far, he's denied interest in the Lansing job.

Harvey has an accounting degree and a master's degree and worked for GM and AAA. She s currently looking for a job, Elrick reports.

But she says that's not why she's running.  She wants to address issues in the neighborhood.

"I heard this from the Lord. When I hear, I'm obedient and I move," Harvey tells Fox 2.
