A Detroit man wanted for a parole violation was killed by Bloomfield Hills police Wednesday night following a car chase through two counties, the Oakland Press reports.

The 24-year-old, Deviere Ernel Ransom, had been convicted in Macomb County for assault by strangulation or suffocation, the paper says.

Police first pursued him in Warren shortly before midnight, WWJ says. He was wanted on a parole violation and was making threats with a firearm.

Troy police tried stopping him at I-75, but he shot at the officers and struck their cruiser, WWJ reports.

He then headed north on I-75, where Bloomfield Hills police got involved. He eventually crashed the car into another vehicle at Woodward and Square Lake Road and then fled on foot, according to the radio station.

During the foot chase, the man allegedly pointed his gun at Bloomfield Hills police, who opened fire and killed him.
