A 24-year-old man in Windsor had a "oh, crap" moment Tuesday, as you can tell from the top sentence of a Windsor Star report:

Windsor police nabbed an alleged car thief early Tuesday after he crashed into a ditch then waved down officers to help get him out.

Minutes earlier, a woman told the two cops her missing 2005 Pontiac had been outside a friend’s house during a 20-minute visit, reporter Trevor Wilhelm recounts.

Officers did a stolen vehicle report then started a street-by-street search. They had turned down Russell Street and were heading east when they noticed a car in the ditch. There was a man in the vehicle.

“They pull up to it and sure enough it’s the stolen car,” said Sgt. Matthew D’Asti. “The police car is coming head-on to it and with their headlights on, he’s not recognizing it as a police car, and he’s just flagging them down for help.”

As the officers got closer, they could see the shock wash over the alleged car thief’s face.
