Former Gov. Rick Snyder must testify in a federal civil trial involving the Flint water crisis. The suit was filed on behalf of four Flint children against two engineering companies.
U.S. District Court Judge Judith E. Levy on Monday denied motions to quash subpoenas for Snyder, his former senior advisor Richard Baird, former Flint emergency managers Gerald Ambrose and Darnell Earley, and former Flint Department of Public Works Director Howard Croft, MLive reports.
Snyder's lawyers had previously indicated he'd use his Fifth Amendment constitutional protection against self-incrimination if forced to testify, but the judge ruled that all thie defendants must answer questions in the trial that they were asked in depositions in May, June, July, and September of 2020.
Snyders and face criminal charges in state court. They've argued that testifying in the civil trial might provide incriminating evidence in their criminal cases.
