Motor City Muckraker notes that the Tigers front office wanted nothing to do with a visit to the old Tiger Stadium stadium site at the legendary corner of Michigan and Trumbull in Corktown.

But that didn't stop two former Tigers second baseman Lou Whitaker and pitcher Dave Rozema from joining some fans at the site today to commemorate what is the sixth anniversary of the start of the demolition of Tiger Stadium, reports Steve Neavling of the Motor City Muckraker.

Neavling writes:

Technically off limits to trespassers by orders of the city of Detroit, the surviving field has been impeccably maintained by the Navin Field Grounds Crew, a group of devoted fans who refuse to quit on the dream of preserving the ballpark.

“It must take you three days to cut this,” Whitaker told the grounds crew.

The players are in town for tonight's official commemoration at Comerica Park of the 1984 World Championship Tigers.
