In an effort to make the case go away, former Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor aggravated assault Friday, the Detroit News reports.
In exchange, prosecutors dropped two sexual assault charges in a case stemming from his encounter in March 2014 with a woman at a Royal Oak bar, that later ended up in the MotorCity Casino hotel, Holly Fournier of the News reports.
The woman claims she was drugged and raped. Reed had insisted all along that the sexual encounter was consensual.
The plea agreement calls for Evans to get probation. The criminal sexual conduct charges carried a maximum penalty of 15 years.
