The land that gave us the gift of Trevor Noah now can enjoy Detroit players and places.

Season One of "Detroiters," the Comedy Central hit series, began last week on a satellite channel in South Africa and other countries in the region.

Distant viewers tuned in at 9 p.m. Central Africa Time on satellite channel 122.

The 10 half-hour episodes about the escapades of two bumbling Detroit admen, played by Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson, are filled with Detroit locations and references -- such as "Day Twa!" shirts and "What up, doe" greetings.

It's available to about 8 million subscribers of DStv (Digital Satellite Television), mainly in South Africa and Nigeria. The channel, launched in 1995, also serves Kenya, Ghana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Mauritius and Tanzania.

The distant viewers will see the DIA's Rivera Court, Cliff Bell's, Woodbridge, downtown, Belle Isle and other sites. Cross-cultural awareness trivia knowledge will expand with exposure to coneys, fowling, hoopties and parodies of vintage local commercials.

"What up doe, Africa?" actor Shawntay Dalon of Detroit, who has a recurring role as Chrissy, posts Thursday on Instagram with the slide at right.

The debut season aired here last Feb. 7 through April 11, earning critical praise. "It's a contemporary 'Dumb and Dumber' that finds the sweetness in male friendship and celebrates a certain junior high sensibility that many men retain throughout their lives," wrote Julie Hinds of the Detroit Free Press. "This is silly comedy practiced by very talented people."

New episodes, taped here last summer and fall, begin Feb. 27 with one titled "Little Caesars." No synopsis is posted yet.
