Keith Owens
Keith Owens is stepping down as senior editor of the Michigan Chronicle to take a job as deputy director of communications for Wayne County.
His last day at the Chronicle is Friday. He starts Monday at the county.
"I have considerable respect for Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, and I look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of his administration in any way I can," Owens says in a statement.
"As with all strong administrations, he is supported by an army of dedicated and committed individuals. I am honored to join their ranks."
The previous deputy communications director, Whitney Lewis, is now communications director for Wayne County's Department of Public Services.
Owens, who added dimension and sophistication to the Chronicle with thoughtful columns, started there in August 2015.
Previously, he was a reporter, columnist and editorial writer for the Detroit Free Press and director of communications for the county treasurer.
