The family of Kayla White, the 23-year-old pregnant woman who died in a fiery crash on the Lodge freeway on Tuesday while driving her 2003 Jeep Liberty, is planning to sue Chrysler, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Greg Gardner of the Free Press  reports that White's Jeep Liberty was covered by a safety campaign for which Chrysler is installing a new trailer hitch to protect against low-speed impacts.

Garnder writes that it's not clear if she responded to letter about the about the corrective repair or whether it would have saved her.

The Free Press reported that attorney Gerald Thurswell, who is representing the family, said the family plans to file a lawsuit against Chrysler.

"The vehicle that she was driving was subject to the recall because of exploding gas tanks," Thurswell tells the Freep.  "We're investigating that aspect of the case. That's all I can say."

The Freep reported that Chrysler believed the Jeep Liberty met safety standards, but agreed to launch a safety campaign by offering the trailer hitches.
