Federal authorities on Friday announced charges against 24 Metro Detroiters for allegedly being part of a major drug operation on Detroit's east side that was also deeply involved in dog fighting.
Authorities said that the gang operated out of 16 homes -- most of them abandoned -- in the Ravendale neighborhood on Detroit's east side that sold cocaine and heroin over the past several years, WWJ reported
"Large-scale, armed drug trafficking organizations that operate out of homes in residential areas create an unacceptable risk of violence to our neighborhoods,” U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said in a statement.. “Dogfighting not only exposes animals to torture for human amusement, but it also poses a safety hazard for residents living in our community when dogs are trained to attack.”
