After several delays, the Fort Street bridge in Detroit has reopened.

The bridge had closed for repairs in the summer of 2013, causing great inconveniences for commuters. It also hurt local businesses.

Priya Mann of WDIV reports that after several delays, the span was supposed to reopen last June, then August and then September.

The 278-foot bascule bridge carries five lanes of traffic and two 8-foot sidewalks over the Rouge River, the Detroit News reports.

The bridge opened on New Year's day.
