The latest quarterly report from economic researchers in Detroit earns this upbeat headline from WWJ: "Southeast Michigan Job Demand Rises."
The news comes from the Workforce Intelligence Network, a Midtown-based group that says regional online job postings rose 11.5 percent during April-June from the first three months of 2013. Matt Roush of WWJ reports:
The most significant job growth continues in three key occupational clusters: Information technology, health care, manufacturing.

More jobs were advertised in Detroit and eight Southeast Michigan counties in the second quarter of 2013 than during the first.
More jobs were posted for Detroit and eight Southeast Michigan counties in the second quarter than during the first. Macomb County had fewer openings listed online, according to the new data -- which reflects demand, not hiring.
More than 17,700 jobs in Detroit were listed online during the April-June quarter, up about 1,100 (6.6%) from the previous three months and nearly 14% more than during the second quarter of 2012, a report summary shows.
"Strong demand in the form of online postings is good news for the Southeast Michigan economy,” network executive director Lisa Katz says in her group's summary. It lists these five top job-opening categories in Southeast Michigan during the latest quarter:
- Software application developers (3,061 postings)
- Sales representatives (wholesale and manufacturing (2,245)
- Retail Sales (2,210)
- Registered nurses(1,956 )
- Customer service representatives (1,639)
The workforce network, created in late 2011, is a consortium eight community colleges, seven Michigan Works agencies and others. Its research is intended to help students pick in-demand careers and provide regional jobs data for employers.
