In just over two weeks, we'll get an official look at Cobo Center's latest makeover -- a new Grand Ballroom with more space, sleek design elements and -- finally -- tall windows overlooking Detroit's skyline, the river and Windsor.

Artist's version of the ballroom to be ready Sept. 7.
WXYZ posts two interior photos of the work in progress that show the modern design and floor-to-ceiling windows that will let Economic Club of Detroit luncheon guests and other look at more than walls and each other. (Click on the Read More link below.)
The ballroom will be equipped with a hydraulic lift stage for dramatic introductions…and will have standing room for 5,000 people.
The new Grand Ballroom will seat 3,600 people theater-style or 2,500 people for banquets. It will be dividable by a retractable wall and have have an open-air terrace.
The public unveiling is Sept. 7. The first phase of $299 million in Cobo upgrades was done in January 2010. The center dates back to 1960 and looked it.
Cobo's website says ballroom renovations include "an open-air terrace overlooking the Detroit River and the skyline of Windsor" and "a new 8,000-square-foot kitchen." A four-minute promotional video is below.
