Gov. Rick Snyder isn't falling in line with the House Republicans who want to kill Michigan’s $50 million-a-year subsidies for the film industry.
Chad Livengood of the Detroit News reports that Snyder said Tuesday that he opposes total elimination of the program that has lured such movies as Batman, starring Ben Affleck, to film in Michigan.
A House committee has voted to end the program, and the full House is expected to follow suit. The bill to eliminate the program could face some opposition in the state Senate.
“I don’t think that would be the most appropriate answer because, again, people have been relying on it, been making decisions on it, so you do it some gradual fashion because the industry should be self-sufficient at some point in the future,” Snyder told reporters after an event at the Capitol, according to the News report.
