Chanting  "Hey, hey, ho, ho, $7.40 has got to go," more than 100 workers picketed outside two Detroit McDonald’s restaurants Thursday morning, part of a national movement to raise the minimum wage.

Tammy Stables Battaglia reports in the Free Press that Rev. Charles Williams II, president of National Action Network and a member of D15, was leading dozens of workers holding signs outside the McDonald’s at Conner Avenue and Mack on Detroit’s East Side.

Workers were also protesting outside a McDonald’s on Grand River Avenue near I-96 on the city’s west side, according to organizers. The groups began picketing at about 5:30 a.m. and plan to move to different sites throughout the day.

“We have…people here with us, standing with the workers who walked out, in support of a fair wage, not just here but across the country,” Williams said from outside the restaurant just before 7 a.m. today.

Dozens of sign-carrying McDonald's employees and others marched in front of the restaurant during the pre-dawn rally Thursday.
