Belle Isle is neglected because of money woes but a majority of the City Council are scare-mongering about the state "taking" the island away from city residents.
And, Stephen Henderson writes in the Free Press, you've got a mayor and governor trying to work out a way to leverage state resources to improve the island -- but neither will tell the public exactly what's going on, giving form to the bogeyman that the council keeps hinting at.
Henderson says "it's all disrespectful of the people in the city, who just need Belle Isle -- like they need the bus system or public lighting or the Police Department -- to actually serve as it's supposed to."
