There's no shortage of crime stories in the city.
But once in a while, there's a crime story with a silver lining, one that gives you faith in the resilience and heart of mankind.
George Hunter and Holly Fournier of the Detroit News write that a 12-year-old boy was stabbed when jumping in front of his mother to protect her from a trio of masked thugs. The boy is recovering from a non-life threatening stab wound.
It all happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday outside the victims’ home on Radnor Street on the city’s east side, near Moross and Interstate 94, the News writes.
Police said the boy accompanied his mother to the party store, along with a 17-year-old girl and a 55-year-old woman.
Three men in ski masks approached and demanded money, but the mother said she didn't have any, police said, according to the News.
One man produced a knife and lunged toward the mother and the boy jumped into the path of the knife and was stabbed in the arm trying to protect his mom, police said.
The robbers then fled on foot.
