The 41-year-old owner of The Original Hip Hop Shop in northwest Detroit was arrested Monday after fatally shooting a 26-year-old man he says was attempting to rob him, The Detroit News reports.
Sgt. Michael Woody, a Detroit Police spokesman, tells Deadline Detroit that the department is seeking a murder charge against the owner. The decision is up to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
The shop, at 15736 W. Seven Mile Rd., has earned shouts from Eminem and other local rappers.
James David Dickson of The News writes that as the owner was opening about 5:40 p.m., a man approached and said “run your pockets,” and threatened to hit him with a brick, according to police.
Police tell The News that the merchant pulled a gun and fired four rounds, striking the man multiple times. He was dead at the scene.
