Andrew Colom

Andrew Colom and David Alade aren't originally from Detroit.

Colom, 34, who is from a small town, Columbus, Miss., was involved in a real estate development there before moving to Detroit. Alade, 29, a native of Jamaica, Queens, is a former Wall Street investment banker, who covered Detroit’s Big Three automakers and visited the city often. They met at Columbia University, later formed Century Partners and moved to Detroit in 2015.

Louis Aguilar of The Detroit News features them in a compelling story about how they set out to fix up Atkins Street in Detroit three years ago by buying and renovating blighted homes. They got investments from friends and family members because banks wouldn't make loans for the street south of the Boston-Edison neighborhood

City leaders now believe the work on Atkinson is a model for reviving many Detroit neighborhoods.
