Attorney Geoffrey Fieger is monitoring Hurricane Irma, which has done some damage to a hotel on the island of Anguilla in the eastern Caribbean that he plans to open later this year, the Detroit Free Press reports. He also has a home nearby.
“The damage in Anguilla is catastrophic,” Fieger said from Michigan.
So far, there have been no injuries to his staffers at the Quintessence Hotel, and most of the damage to his properties has been cosmetic, Fieger tells Elisha Anderson of the Detroit Free Press. He said he lost fencing around the hotel, roof tiles and landscaping.
“Nothing that can’t be replaced ... it’s just a question of how fast that can be done in the environment that we’re in, which is an island that is going to be entirely reconstructed,” Fieger said.
Fieger posted a statement on his hotel's website: "Our thoughts are with all our Anguilla friends and neighbors and everyone in Hurricane Irma’s path during this challenging time. Please stay safe. Global warming is real!"
