Brigitte Bonder: "Most of the guests are real Motown fans and they sing very loudly."

"I’ll come back for sure," Brigitte Bonder of Germany posts at her year-old Just Luxe Travel blog, where 18 of her photos accompany a series of brief recommendations in English.

She stayed on the 24th floor of  a downtown hotel and hit sites of interest to a first-time visitor -- Motown Museum ("a must"), RiverWalk, Greektown, Campus Martius, the People Mover and The Henry Ford/Greenfield Village in Dearborn.

Bonder, who's from the northwest Germany city of Dortmund, took a Lufthansa nonstop flight from Frankfurt to what seems like "a small airport" here. She's enthusiastic about GM cars on display at RenCen, the mock beach at Campus Martius and "the most popular nightlife district" on Monroe Street.

"You can easily explore downtown Detroit on foot," advises Bonder, who's impressed by activity along Woodward and in the financial district:

Everywhere new restaurants and shops have opened. Big brands now buy properties in order to open new branches in the city. . . .

The German visitor posts Detroit impressions at her travel blog.

Under a subhead that says: "Detroit -- Is it dangerous?"  the blogger tells Europeans and others to set aside outmoded concerns about a city that's evolving:

Is Detroit not the most dangerous city in the USA? You can’t step out of the house in the evenings, right? And is there anything to see?

These and other questions my friends asked me before I left. . . . Now I can say “YES!” Detroit is really worth a visit."

The German traveler's Michigan trip also included a one-night stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, which she wrote about two weeks ago.
