Frankly, it's never made sense that the Motown Museum -- as cool as it is -- isn't more expansive.
The attraction celebrating the Motown sound is a Detroit gem that has been underplayed and undervalued for decades. Now, it plans a $50-million expansion.
The small museum on West Grand Blvd. will be converted to a 50,000-square-foot facility with "educational and entertainment experiences, theater and state-of-the-art exhibits." The expansion will be designed and built around the current space, the museum said.
"Our goal is to bring an expanded Motown Museum to the world, to inspire dreams and serve as an educational resource for global and local communities while creating an international mecca of music and entertainment history," said Robin R. Terry, chairwoman and CEO of the Motown Museum.
