The first trial ended up in a deadlocked jury in June 2013.
Fast-forward to October 2014.
Elisha Anderson of the Detroit Free Press reports that jurors jury sent a note on Wednesday, on the first full day of deliberations, saying they were having a difficult time reaching a verdict in the trial of Detroit cop Joseph Weekley charged in the death of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones. Weekley faces a misdemeanor charge of recklessly using a firearm.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway told the jury:
"Try your best to work out your differences. Although you should try to reach agreement, none of you should give up your honest opinion about the case just because other jurors disagree with you or just for the sake of reaching a verdict."
Deliberations continued and resume Thursday.
