Slammed with a 28-year prison sentence, ex-Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick hasn't any choice but to file an appeal and hope for a lucky break. It's like throwing a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the game.

As expected, Kilpatrick's attorneys filed notice of an appeal on Wednesday.

Defendant Kwame Kilpatrick, through his attorneys, Harold Gurewitz and Margaret Sind Raben, hereby enters his Notice of Appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit of all orders of the District Court, his convictions, and his sentence imposed October 10, 2013.

Kilpatrick is currently being house in Milan, a federal prison outside of Ann Arbor. He has requested to be placed in a Texas prison so he can be closer to his family.
