Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, who laid off 22 prosecutors last month because of budget cuts, is getting a little help.
Orlandar Brand-Williams of The Detroit News reports that Worthy reached an out-of-court settlement Monday with Wayne County that will add add $5.6 million to her budget.
County Commissioners must approve the deal.
Worthy had filed a lawsuit against the county to keep it from slashing its budget. The prosecutor had requested $34 million for the 2012-13 budget and got $25.4 million.
The shortfall caused her to layoff 22 prosecutors who were contract workers, two investigators and one weekend clerk. The cuts brought dismissals or adjournments of some crimiinal cases in 36th District Court and a backlog of cases in the prosecutor's office.
