The Michigan legislature overwhelmingly authorized funds for Gov. Rick Snyder's plan to fight blight in three Detroit neighborhoods.
As Deadline Detroit reveled Friday, Snyder is scheduled to announce the plan Aug. 2 in the MorningSide neighborhood on Detroit's East Side. It will include demolition of abandoned homes, repair of street lights, extra state police patrols and placing social workers and health professionals in several schools.
The money involved totals $97 million, and it comes from a share of a national settlement with banks to help homeowners hurt by the foreclosure crisis and reduce blight.
Out of the $97 million, $25 million will be spent on blight elimination - $10 million in Detroit and $15 million throughout the rest of the state.
