Lions Coach Jim Caldwell is far more subtle than some NBA coaches, including the Pistons' Stan Van Gundy, who blasts Donald Trump after the election.
Caldwell didn't name the president-elect during a news conference Monday, but is clear about his stance, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press writes:
"This is all I’m going to say about it is leadership’s important," Caldwell said. "And I do know for a fact that had I voiced some of the same opinions as some of our candidates, I probably wouldn’t have a job within five minutes of when I walked off this stage, some of you as well, but yet the person can become the leader of the free world.
"So it’s a different time and place, and we’re moving forward."
Caldwell declined to elaborate, saying he wanted to "use this platform for what it’s meant for, and that’s obviously to talk about our team and those kinds of things."
A day after the election, Van Gundy called Trump "openly and brazenly racist and misogynistic and ethnic-centric." He said he was also ashamed of the country because of its presidential pick.
