Jerome Schostak

It would be hard to live in Detroit and not have seen the Schostak name all around.

On Friday, Jerome Schostak, who Crain's Detroit Business described as "a pioneer in the enclosed mall concept,"  died. He was 80.

Kirk Pinho of Crain's wrote:

Schostak, who lived in Franklin, was CEO of Livonia-based Schostak Bros. & Co. for 25 years, until 1995, when he turned operations of the company over to two of his sons.  Schostak Bros. was founded in 1920.

Schostak, who developed Livonia Mall and Macomb Mall in 1962, also developed one of Metro Detroit’s first Kmart stores.  His first major retail assignment was the former Wonderland property at Plymouth and Middlebelt roads in Livonia in 1957.

A funeral will be held at Ira Kaufman Chapel on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
