Henry Keith Johnson , 55, lived in the building  in the 10500 block of Whittier on Detroit's east side that caught fire on Wednesday, leaving five male residents dead and four injured.

On Friday, he was arraigned on five counts of first-degree felony murder and five counts of first-degree arson and remanded to jail, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced.

The building had eight apartments, most occupied by one or two male adults being treated for substance abuse or mental issues, the Detroit News reported earlier this week.

“Our families didn’t want us. This was the last place for us to go,” Marcelleus Thomas, 54, who returned from an appointment to see his home ablaze, told the paper.
